Week One: Piece by Piece, I Rise

My first week at Nedbank felt like being handed a 2,500-piece puzzle, daunting at first glance, but slowly, steadily, I began to piece it together. One login, one meeting, one acronym at a time. The systems and applications were new, the processes unfamiliar, but with each step, I felt myself settling into the rhythm of this new journey.

Once my access was sorted, I began connecting with the team, introductory sessions, broader team engagements, and walkthroughs of the core processes that will eventually become my focus. There’s something energizing about touching the new, familiarizing yourself with the lay of the land, and simply allowing yourself to learn. I’ve enjoyed every moment of it.

The team has been incredibly welcoming, supportive, patient, and generous with their time. It’s made all the difference. I can feel the transition taking root. This is a new beginning, a fresh space for growth, and it carries that evergreen feeling of new life. A reminder that even after seasons of uncertainty, renewal is always possible.

A growth mindset is essential in spaces like this, and from my interactions this week, I believe I’ve found a place where that mindset is not only encouraged but nurtured. Every time I decode a new acronym, every meeting where something clicks, every lightbulb moment, I feel myself getting closer to laying the foundation I need to truly add value. And for that, I am deeply grateful.

It’s been a wonderful first week. And now, I look ahead with excitement to the next, starting with a trip to Johannesburg to meet the team face-to-face and engage in some team building. The timing couldn’t be more perfect. These are the people I’ll be working closely with, and I feel blessed to connect with them so early in the journey.

As I reflect on my first week, I’m reminded of the quiet symbolism in the small things. A photo taken in the morning light, felt like a soft affirmation. A reminder that I’m exactly where I need to be. That this new chapter is not just about work, but about heart, alignment, and rising into purpose.

Here’s to another amazing week, more learning, more connection, and more rising.💚💚💚

The New Chapter Begins - Day 1

Sleep was elusive last night, my excitement carried me through the hours as I prepared, in mind and heart, for this new beginning. Today marked my first day as a Senior Quantitative Analyst aka Quant, at Nedbank, a role that both humbles and excites me. I know it will stretch me, challenge me, and grow me in ways I can’t yet imagine, and that’s exactly what I’ve been praying for.

The morning started with prayer, a quiet moment of gratitude for this opportunity and for the journey that has led me here. By 7 a.m. I was out the door, nerves and anticipation dancing inside me. My heart raced, not just because of the unknowns of traffic heading into town, but because I was stepping into a whole new chapter of my life.

For the first time in many years, I wore a suit to work. It may sound simple, but it carried a powerful weight. There’s something about putting it on that makes you stand taller, it’s more than fabric, it’s a feeling of presence, professionalism, and readiness.

Walking into the building, I felt the unmistakable energy of new beginnings. My team lead greeted me warmly and helped me get set up with IT. Soon after, the rest of the team arrived, and we gathered in the boardroom. What touched me deeply was that although the team works fully remote, they all made the effort to come into the office just to welcome me. That gesture alone spoke volumes. It made me feel supported, valued, and truly part of something bigger. Later, over coffee, I began building those first connections that I know will grow into meaningful relationships.

The rest of the day was spent setting up my home office and familiarising myself with new applications. It was a mix of the practical and the emotional, the small tasks of logging in, the quiet excitement of realising, this is my space now.

Day one was everything I could have hoped for, structured yet welcoming, energising yet grounding. I know the learning curve lies ahead, but for the first time in a long while, I feel anchored by routine, discipline, and purpose.

This is not just a job. It’s the start of something significant. A reminder that resilience bears fruit, that prayers find their answers, and that with every ending comes a new beginning worth stepping into wholeheartedly.

A Day of Grace, Gratitude, and New Beginnings

Sunday morning greeted me with rain and a slightly scratchy throat, so I decided to stay in, rest a little, and allow my body the pause it clearly needed. The day ahead was special, we had our Ladies High Tea planned, and I had the privilege of being asked to capture the moments through photography. It felt like such an honour to be trusted in this way, and I silently prayed for two things: for the weather to clear and for me to feel well enough to fully enjoy and be present.

My prayers were answered. As I pulled up to the Mandir, the clouds parted and the sun appeared, as if blessing the day ahead. From there, everything just seemed to flow beautifully. The function unfolded seamlessly, filled with joy, connection, and inspiration. By the end of it, I felt deeply fulfilled and grateful to have been part of something so meaningful.

Being on the planning committee gave me an even greater appreciation of the event. It was moving to see how so many talented women came together, pooling their skills, creativity, and time to bring the vision to life. It was collaboration at its finest. And to top it all off, we were each gifted a beautiful flower arrangement as a gesture of appreciation, a thoughtful surprise that touched my heart.

As the day drew to a close, I made my way home, my thoughts shifting toward preparation for my first day tomorrow. The excitement was building, so was the anxiety (a healthy mix of both, I’d say 😅). But underneath it all was a grateful heart, grateful for the women I shared the day with, the blessings of answered prayers, and the promise of a new chapter unfolding.

This journey has taught me that prayers are often answered in the simplest ways, and that when women come together with purpose and heart, true magic happens.

Saturday - A Day of Connection and Celebration

The day began the way so many of my weekends do, with a refreshing walk along the promenade, this time with my family by my side. There’s something grounding about starting the day together, taking in the sea breeze, sharing conversations, and simply being present. Today was extra special as we celebrated my cousin’s birthday, and that added layer of joy made the morning feel even brighter.

Later, I joined a friend for a dance class, a chance to move, let loose, and feed my soul with something lighthearted and fun. Dancing has this incredible way of releasing tension, and by the end of it, I felt both relaxed and energized. We rounded it off with a quick cuppa, small but meaningful moments that carry so much weight in this season of my life.

The afternoon swept me into celebration mode again as I got ready for a baby shower. The hours passed quickly, filled with laughter, conversations, and that unique joy of celebrating new beginnings.

As the day wound down, I spent the late afternoon and evening with a loved one. We explored the malls in Ballito, unhurried and content, and ended the night with a cozy movie. It was the perfect close to a day that had been full yet fulfilling, a day stitched together with connection, celebration, and love from all directions.

These are the kinds of days that remind me of the beauty of balance. Life may be busy and uncertain at times, but when it is filled with family, friends, and love, it feels abundantly rich.

Friday – The Closing of a Chapter, the Beginning of Another

The rain this Friday morning may have deterred me from my usual walk, but it didn’t stop me from rising early and easing into the day with admin, the sort of thing we can’t ever quite escape. Today carried extra weight: it was my last day of being unemployed. I’m still letting that truth sink in, still soaking in the idea of stepping back into the rhythm of work, into a new chapter.

I made a stop to bid farewell to my nail technician who is leaving for greener pastures. It reminded me of how important it is to acknowledge and express gratitude for the people who leave their mark on our lives, no matter how big or small their role may seem.

Later, I visited a dear friend who has been walking this same uncertain path alongside me. She too secured a job this month, and it has been such a comfort to share this season of challenge with someone who truly understands the highs and lows. There’s a bond that forms in times of trial, something unspoken, rooted in resilience. Our conversations, no matter how they start, always end in laughter. They leave me lighter, brighter, and deeply grateful for the company of kindred spirits.

The next stop of the day was my side hustle: a corporate team-building and birthday event at Create Ceramics. It was the perfect opportunity to put my photography skills to work, and I felt alive behind the lens, capturing smiles, connections, and those small, precious moments that tell a bigger story. Being surrounded by people, energy, and creativity filled me in ways I can’t fully describe.

The evening was sealed with a celebratory dinner with dear friends, a chance to catch up, laugh, and toast to new beginnings. My day was full, my heart was fuller, and as I look forward to a jam-packed weekend, I feel ready to step forward into the next chapter with gratitude and excitement.

Unemployment tested me in ways I never imagined, but it also shaped me. It taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of leaning on love, laughter, and faith. And now, as I step into what’s next, I carry the lessons and gratitude with me, proof that even in the most uncertain seasons, we can rise.

Thursday – A Full Day of Grounding, Gratitude, and Grace

As Thursday began, I knew it would be a busy one, the kind of day where everything needed to fit neatly into its place. I started with a quick morning walk to centre myself, followed by coffee and a catch-up with a friend, a small but necessary pause before diving into the rest of the day.

Back home, my focus shifted to creating social media content and prepping ingredients for dinner later. I also had to prepare for a meeting with my financial advisor. On days like this, being present amidst the busyness doesn’t always come easily, but I’ve learned that grounding myself in the small tasks helps me stay balanced.

After my meeting, I met family for a late lunch and another quick catch-up before heading home again to prepare for the evening offering at Mandir and to finish up dinner for myself and a loved one.

We made it to Mandir on time, and as I stepped inside, I felt a deep sense of fulfilment, gratitude for the blessings of the week and a quiet reassurance that I am being guided, even when the road feels uncertain. The service was vibrant and captivating, filling my heart with peace and presence.

Later that evening, we shared dinner, and in those simple moments of connection, I was reminded once again where my true sense of purpose lives, in faith, in family, and in love.

Creativity, Connection, and Centering

The day began as many of my favourite ones do, with a walk along the promenade, the sea breeze against my face, and a cappuccino in hand. There’s something about those early moments that ground me, centering my mind and setting the tone for whatever lies ahead. It’s in these pauses that I feel most aligned, ready to take on the day with intention.

My focus today was on my side project, bringing my photographs to life as marketing content. There’s a certain joy and freedom in creativity, it makes me feel alive, purposeful, and deeply connected to myself. Every image tells a story, and shaping them into content feels like carving out a little piece of meaning in the midst of this journey.

Later, I ran a few errands, picking up something special for a temple offering and a baby present for an upcoming shower. Life’s small tasks may seem simple, but I find they carry their own sense of grounding. They remind me that even in the uncertainty of career transitions, life continues to weave in celebrations, faith, and acts of love.

One of the highlights of my day was visiting colleagues at Derivco. I felt it was important to share my news in person with the very people who helped shape my career. Walking back into that space, I was reminded of the relationships I’ve built, the challenges we’ve shared, and the camaraderie that comes from working in such a complex industry. Their empathy and understanding of my journey meant so much, it’s a kind of support that goes beyond words.

It was a full day, creative, connective, and meaningful. By evening, I allowed myself the simple gift of rest and unwinding, grateful for the people, the projects, and the quiet rituals that keep me steady as I rise.

Sacred Steps and Quiet Growth

The morning arrived with a soft drizzle and overcast skies, but I wasn’t deterred. There’s something about walking in that kind of weather, gentle, reflective, grounding. I laced up and made my way to the promenade, determined to begin my day with movement and intention.

Today held a quiet sense of purpose. My mission was clear: complete the onboarding activities triggered by my new role, attend a few midday meetings, and prepare for a sacred evening prayer. In our Hindu tradition, we observe an annual prayer to honor our ancestors, a moment of remembrance, gratitude, and spiritual grounding.

I spent the afternoon preparing with care. I made soji, a sweet dish offered during the prayer, and allowed myself to move slowly, intentionally. There’s something deeply healing about rituals, how they connect us to lineage, memory, and meaning.

As evening approached, the day had slipped by quickly. A loved one arrived at my door to join me for the prayer, and together we stepped into that sacred space. Sharing the experience made it even more uplifting. Afterward, we enjoyed dinner and a relaxed evening, filled with quiet conversation and the kind of comfort that only comes from being truly present.

Now, as I prepare for sleep, I feel a deep sense of contentment. My heart is full, with gratitude for what has unfolded, and awe at the growth that continues to happen, often in the most unexpected ways. Today reminded me that even amidst the drizzle, there is light. Even in the quiet, there is movement.

Momentum in Motion

Monday began bright and early, as it often does, with a walk along the promenade and a quiet coffee to follow. The morning air was crisp, the kind that wakes you gently and reminds you to breathe deeply. These rituals have become my anchor, a way to ease into the day with clarity and calm.

There was much to do today, and I felt ready to lean into the momentum. First on the list,  notifying the companies still in the interview process that I had accepted an offer. It felt important to close that loop with integrity and gratitude. This journey has taught me the value of transparency, and I’m grateful for every opportunity that came my way.

With that done, I turned my attention to my photography business, curating social media content for the week ahead. It’s become a rhythm I enjoy, blending creativity with strategy, and allowing my work to speak in ways that feel authentic and affirming.

Midday brought a welcome pause, a quick catch-up with a friend that felt like a breath of fresh air. These small moments of connection carry so much weight, especially in seasons of change.

Later, I met with my financial advisor to make some much-needed updates to my portfolio. With a new role secured, it’s time to recalibrate and plan with intention. This part of the process felt empowering, like I’m stepping into a new chapter with both heart and foresight.

The evening unfolded gently. I rushed home to prepare dinner and later shared a meal with a loved one, reflecting on the fullness of the day. It was productive, yes, but more than that, it was meaningful. A day rooted in progress, connection, and quiet celebration.

As I wind down tonight, I do so with a grateful heart. For the opportunities, the people, and the unfolding path that continues to shape me.

Sunday – Gratitude and New Beginnings

This Sunday unfolded with the kind of simplicity I treasure, an early morning walk with my uncle, followed by coffee and rusks for breakfast. There’s a unique comfort in these small rituals, the kind that set the tone for the day with warmth and ease.

I knew I had something important to complete, and so I made my way home to finalize my offer acceptance. Signing those papers felt like more than just a task, it was a turning point, a pivotal moment. To think that within just three months of uncertainty, I’ve been blessed with this opportunity fills me with awe and deep gratitude. It’s a reminder that even in the most uncertain seasons, doors open, and light breaks through.

Later, I visited my aunty who had just been discharged from hospital. Being able to sit with her, share space, and then catch up with my cousins was such a gift. We shared a meal, laughter, and the kind of easy conversation that only family brings. These are the moments I hold close to my heart, moments that remind me of love, resilience, and the unshakable strength of connection.

The evening was spent with my loved one, sharing dinner and the kind of eventful moments that make life real and memorable. As the day drew to a close and I laid my head down to rest, I felt a quiet contentment wash over me.

I am grateful. I am rising. And I am exactly where I need to be.

A New Calm, A Quiet Rise

This morning began bright and early, with the sky still undecided, rain had passed through in the early hours, but by the time I woke, it was clear. I took that as a sign and made my way to meet family for our morning walk. There was something different about waking up today. For the first time in a while, I felt rested. Not just physically, but emotionally. The usual undercurrent of anxiety and uncertainty had lifted, replaced by a quiet sense of peace and assurance.

It was the kind of morning that reminds you, you’re progressing. You’re moving forward. And after months of navigating unknowns, that feeling is everything.

My uncle and I spent quality time walking and chatting, catching up in the kind of way that feels both grounding and affirming. We stopped for coffee and a light breakfast just before the rain returned, and I found myself soaking in the moment, grateful for the connection and the clarity.

Back home, I turned my attention to reviewing my contract, taking time to go through the fine print, honoring the significance of this next step. It felt surreal, yet deeply earned. Later, I joined a loved one for a celebratory lunch at a fine dining spot, and as we clinked glasses and shared stories, I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me. I’ve reached a point I once only hoped for, and now, I’m here.

The evening was quiet, spent in my creative space, working on photography and social media promotions, fully in my flow. It’s the kind of work that doesn’t feel like work, the kind that fills me up.

As I prepare for bed tonight, I do so with a full heart. No lingering anxiety. No second-guessing. Just peace. And the quiet pride of knowing that the grind, the growth, and the grace have brought me here.

A Friday of Fulfilment and Forward Motion

This Friday morning arrived crisp and cool, the kind of air that wakes you gently and invites you to breathe deeper. The sunrise was spectacular, soft hues stretching across the sky as I made my way to the promenade, ready to embrace the day. There’s something sacred about those early walks: the stillness, the rhythm, the quiet clarity they bring. With coffee in hand afterward, I sat for a moment, mentally mapping out my intentions for the day. My focus was clear, my photography business. I had ideas to expand, tasks to complete, and a heart full of hope.

The first stop was one I’d been eagerly anticipating, picking up my freshly printed business cards. I’d designed them myself, and holding them in my hands brought a wave of emotion, gratitude, pride, and a quiet whisper of I did this. I thought of my dad in that moment. I know he would’ve smiled, proud of the care and creativity poured into something so meaningful.

Next, I headed to PnA to pick up card holders, because presentation matters. It’s not just about the art, it’s about how you invite others into your world. With my cards in hand and stock packed up, I made my way to Create Ceramics to pitch my work. I was met with warmth and openness, and the opportunity to display my canvas prints in their space felt like a quiet affirmation ~ you’re on the right path.

As I hung my prints and chatted with the staff over coffee, my heart felt full. There’s something magical about being seen, about sharing your work in spaces that welcome you. I left with a sense of possibility blooming in my chest, like good things were on their way.

And they were.

Later that afternoon, I checked my emails and received news that made me pause ~ I have an offer. Relief washed over me, followed by emotion that sat gently in my chest. It’s been nearly three months, two case studies, one interview, multiple assessments, credit and security checks, references, and here I am. I don’t regret a single step. Every challenge shaped me. Every delay taught me. Every moment prepared me.

I’ve been moulded by this process. And now, I rise.

My first thought was simple and sacred, Thank God. I am held, always.

It was a long day, but tonight I rest. Not with anxiety or uncertainty, but with peace. With contentment. With a grateful heart.

Centered in Stillness, Rising with Ease

This morning greeted me with sunshine and stillness, the kind that gently settles the nerves and softens the edges of anticipation. I stepped outside to soak in the morning freshness, letting the quiet calm of the day wrap around me. There’s something sacred about early light and silence, it does something to my soul, easing anxiety and inviting clarity.

The night before had been slightly restless. The weight of the upcoming interview lingered in my thoughts, but as the morning unfolded, I leaned into my rituals. A walk along the promenade, deep breathing exercises, and a slow, grounding breakfast helped me center myself. I reminded myself to approach the day with poise, presence, and quiet determination.

When the time came, I stepped into the interview with a sense of readiness. And what unfolded was more than I expected, an engaging, thoughtful conversation with intelligent yet humble individuals. I left feeling uplifted, at ease, and genuinely grateful.

Later in the day, I visited a friend for tea, a quick catch-up that felt like a warm hug for the soul. These small moments of connection carry so much weight, especially after emotionally charged experiences. I returned home to prepare supper, letting the rhythm of cooking bring me back to center.

The evening closed with temple service, a space of reverence, vibration, and healing. The atmosphere was grounding, and it felt like the perfect end to a full, meaningful day. I left feeling held, restored, and quietly proud of how I showed up.

Preparing to Show Up Fully

This morning began with a familiar ritual, my walk along the promenade, where the rhythm of my steps helps me settle into the day. The ocean air, the rising sun, and my customary coffee afterward created the kind of calm I needed to anchor myself. These moments of stillness are more than routine, they’re a reset. A way to tune into clarity before the day unfolds.

Today was all about preparation. With an interview on the horizon, I focused on upskilling and refining my mindset. I’ve learned that it’s not just about knowing the material, it’s about cultivating the energy and confidence to show up fully. I spent time reviewing, practicing, and centering myself in a space of growth. Nervousness lingered, yes, but so did excitement. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and I’m choosing to meet it with intention.

I spread my work across the day, pacing myself to stay focused without burning out. And as evening approached, I made the conscious decision to turn in early. Rest is part of preparation too. It’s the quiet investment that allows me to rise with clarity and strength.

Tomorrow holds possibility. And tonight, I honour the effort it took to get here

Anchored in Gratitude, Rising Through Connection

This morning began with anticipation, a familiar ritual that’s become a balm for the soul. Our beachside breakfast catch-up with former colleagues, now cherished friends, is more than just coffee and conversation. It’s therapy wrapped in ocean air, laughter, and the kind of support that reminds me I’m not walking this path alone.

We sat by the shore, sharing stories, checking in, and simply being present with one another. These moments are rooted in gratitude, for the friendships that have deepened through change, for the encouragement that flows freely, and for the gentle reminders that I am seen and supported.

Later in the morning, I met another dear friend for a photoshoot, sunshine, sand, and creative energy. It was a joy to capture her essence for her business, and being with her felt like a recharge. She’s a fellow Capricorn, someone who just gets me, and our time together was both grounding and energizing.

On my way home, I made a quick stop for tea with another close friend, a short lunch break, a warm hug, and a shared cup that carried more comfort than words could. It was spontaneous, simple, and deeply nourishing.

Today, my cup was filled. Not just with coffee or tea, but with the presence of soulful people who reminded me that I matter. That even in the midst of transition, there is love, support, and joy to be found.

As I shared dinner with a loved one that evening, I reflected on the quiet truth of this season, we are all growing. Evolving. Learning to navigate the highs and lows with grace. This journey is teaching me not just about resilience, but about what truly matters, connection, authenticity, and the courage to keep rising.

Spring Light & Sacred Reminders

Monday began with a familiar rhythm, an early walk along the promenade, the kind that clears the mind and softens the weight of the week before. A dear friend joined me for coffee afterward, and it was exactly the connection I needed. That quiet reset, the gentle conversation, the shared laughter, it helped me refocus and find my footing again.

As we spoke, my friend shared a verse from the Bible that landed deeply in my heart:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11

It was the kind of reminder I didn’t know I needed. It echoed the reassurance my dad used to offer when I felt uncertain, his way of reminding me that even in the unknown, I am held. Isn’t it incredible how the universe places the right people in your path, just when your spirit needs lifting?

I left the promenade feeling lighter. Recentered. Ready to take on the day.

And then, something beautiful unfolded. I received news that a photo I had submitted to The Photogra.her magazine for their Pets and Their People issue was selected and featured in the August edition. Just as Spring arrived, so did this quiet affirmation, a moment that felt like divine timing. A whisper from the universe saying, keep going.

Starting out in photography has been a journey of heart, hustle, and hope. And this feature felt like a ray of light breaking through the clouds. A reminder that even in seasons of uncertainty, there are moments of grace. Of recognition. Of movement.

I’m grateful, for the opportunities, for the people who show up, for the quiet signs that I’m on the right path. I’m taking each day as it comes, placing one foot in front of the other, trusting that what’s meant for me will never pass me by.
